Back in June I started the Grocery Cash Challenge. My main goal was to save money by using cash instead of my debit card. The big challenge was I was cutting $100 off my grocery bill for the month on top of it.
Well it has been working! In June we had about $25 left over. In July we had about $10 left over. This month we have BARELY been to the store. We are living off the stock pile and getting perishables. I would love to have $100 left over this month!
So hubby and I sat down and started talking about what we walked to do with the money. While we are still torn we decided we can’t just leave the money sitting in an extra drawer. So what did we do? We opened an ING Electric Orange Checking account and put the money it and forget about it. We love that account because it’s a checking account so we get a debit card for it (to use in case we need asap access to the funds), but also because they gave us $50.00 to sign up and there are literally no fees.
So right now we have $35 we have saved plus the $50 from ING $85 doesn’t seem like much BUT we also have an extra $100 in our budget each month due to cutting $100 from the grocery budget back in June. So that’s another $300 we have put towards saving for new furniture (we need some new pieces big time!)
