What if you no longer had to pay full price on prescriptions? I am all for that! With having a big (+growing) family, prescriptions can be downright expensive. I am determined to cut costs where I can and one of those costs is on prescriptions. Check out how you can also save money on prescriptions.
#1. Call around to different pharmacies.
Sometimes when you want to save money, you have to put the work in. It’s not always easy trying to save money, but it is worth it. One way to save money on prescriptions is by calling around to different pharmacies. It’s amazing how the prices differ from place to place. Or see #5 to find an easier alternative with SearchRx.
#2. Contact the drug company.
Although most drug companies want your money, they also want you to choose their company over the competitor. They’re usually willing to give you a coupon or some other time of discount, at least the first time. Contact them to see what kind of discount you can get, it is worth a try.
#3. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist.
Believe it or not, but there are different versions of pharmaceuticals out there. Ask your doctor if there are cheaper options and whether you can take the generic version of a medication. Brand name medications are significantly more expensive and generics will carry the same active ingredients. In most cases, they’re just as effective as brand name medications. Why pay full price if you can get something way cheaper? Don’t be fooled! Also remember to ask your pharmacist for their opinion.
#4. Take advantage of the prescription coverage from your insurance.
Most insurances have some type of prescription coverage. Take advantage of this coverage. Mention the type of coverage you have when you call to check on prescription prices. It is so worth it! If you have something, like prescription coverage, take advantage of it!
#5. Take advantage of SearchRx.
One of my favorite ways to save money on prescriptions is by using SearchRx. They have a free app and website that allows you to compare prices at different pharmacies. I grew up learning ways to save from my mom and grandma. I started my own coupon journey when my first child was born in 2009 and started the blog on 2010 when baby #2 was born to share my tips with everyone who kept asking about how I was getting diapers for $1 a pack!
