Ok ya’ll growing up I remember during the holidays breaking out the games and playing before and after meals. Monopoly was a family favorite and I enjoyed The Game of Life (though the new careers have me intrigued!!). I remember many heated thanksgiving meals when we would be in the middle of a heated Monopoly game and have to stop to eat dinner, we would smack talk at the table until we got the look from my grandma. You know the one, where you straighten up and do what you are told. Then the second dinner was over we bolt from the table back to the game. Were are quite a competitive group to say the least. Traditional games from Hasbro Gaming feed into that side of us!
I remember have a whole shelf dedicated to games at my grandparents house. I loved playing with my grandma almost every day since I went there after school. We enjoyed Sorry! and Scrabble though spelling isn’t my strong point so I wasn’t very good at it.
I remember many heated games of Operation between my brother and I. I was older so I always kicked his butt unless we were on a sugar high then shaky hands weren’t my friend!
Well being a mom now we have brought family game night to our family. Hubby and I still enjoy roping who ever we can into a good game of Monopoly (I still have the original game from my grandparents house!) Now hubby likes to play with the kids and his favorite is Battleship with our son!
There is nothing like getting family together for the holiday and watching everyone’s face light up as the games are brought out. Pick games and pairing off are some of my favorite memories and I hope one day my kids can say the same, because it’s about time to Get Your Family Game On!
Every year Santa would bring one new game to add to our collection and boy do they make a great gift! Giving a family the gift of family time is something you can’t put a value on.
