Being in the military you move around a lot. That's no secret, but that moving leaves us traveling more to visit family which leaves us with more of a chance to have our identity stolen. My husband also had to have a few different clearances in his time in the Navy and recently one of the databases for those clearances was compromised.
Add in EVERYTHING with the military is tied to the service members social security number from, mine and my kids medical records to our pay checks. So when you talked to anyone even on the phone we had to give out that social security number and you never knew who was on the other end of the phone.
Add in there was a breech in military medical records, which included social numbers a few years back, needless to say we keep a VERY tight watch on our social security numbers and identities. We started with the free service the military offered during the first of several breeches; from there we transitioned to LifeLock.
Our 2nd trip home as a family we traveled two days home from Virginia to Florida. When we got there we found over $500 in gas charged to our card in Washington State. Not to mention we didn't even use $500 in gas! Our bank was great about taking care of it and over knighted us a new card and everything. Less than a year later the first breech of my husband's social security number happened.
I swear after reading the letter then sent, because a phone call right away would have been too easy they send a letter then took 2 weeks to get to us. THAT is another story all together. But after the letter and the talk with my husband after he got home the LifeLock commercial came on TV right before dinner, again during dinner and twice after the kids went to bed. Needless to say it was all the signs we needed before we finally signed up!
I can't tell you what a relief it was when we got 3 more of those mean little letters in the mail over the next 4 years, to know without having to run and pull our credit reports, that we were safe. Thankfully we have never had a problem or issue with our identity but other military members have.
If you haven't been through the process of trying to fix your identity, or know someone who had done it then let me fill you in. You will end up spending HOURS, no DAYS and WEEKS on the phone, filling out paperwork trying to prove who you are and that the charges aren't yours. In some cases you are stuck paying them off any way.
This is why LifeLock is such a great idea! They monitor your identity and let you know of potential threats, they can even lock down your identity so things like loans and mortgages. Plus if for some reason you DO become a victim? They have certified agents to work with you and do all the leg work for you on getting it taken care of ASAP.
See what all you get with your LifeLock plan:
Pretty good huh? PLUS right now they want to help military members and get them 30 days FREE and then 15% off their plans AND a free American Flag! Just use promo code WESALUTE3 when signing up!
LifeLock as several plans to choose from. Plans start at just $9.99 a month and go up depending on what features you want. So with your discount you can get this great protection for as little as $8.50 a month!
