Its no secret that we have 5 kids. Financially preparing for kids is not easy. In fact, when I was pregnant with all our kids, we went into stork mode and saved a ton of money. However, now that all the kids are here, we’re trying hard to save money for our future. My kids need us to be financially wise, which is why we’re saving money for the future now.
Savings Account
Our first step for saving money for the future is a savings account. We’re using a Navy Federal savings account to help us put as much money away as we can. We put a certain amount of money away each paycheck and this helps us save for our future. Knowing we are putting away money, in a savings account, makes me happy. Every time one of our children is born, we open their very own savings account. With five kids, it’s important to start preparing now for our children’s financial future.
We’re Always Budgeting
When it comes down to saving money for the future, we’re big budgeters. It makes sense to budget as much as possible. For example, we set up budgets for each paycheck we get. This budget helps us to determine where our money goes. Budgeting is important to make sure your money is going where you need it most. Some people think that budgeting means you have no extra or play money, but really it's the best way to help you reach your dreams! I’m always researching the best way to budget, I don’t think you can ever be too prepared.
Teaching our kids about money
Something I love about how we’re preparing financially for the future is we’re teaching our kids about money. We sit down with our kids and teach them about money. When they get money from places like the tooth fairy and birthdays, we show them how to put their money towards spending, saving, and giving. Kids need to know the value of money and how to spend it wisely. I don’t think it’s ever too early to teach kids about money. What you teach your kids now will follow them for the rest of their lives.
