Many of you know that my family travels full time in an RV. It’s fabulous, but you may be wondering how my kids get in their playtime and stay active? I wanted to share some ways in which you can encourage playtime in your kids, whether you’re on the road or not.
Play in a Random Park
You better believe that when my kids and I get a chance, we head to a random park to play. Since we are limited on what we can bring with us on the road, parks are always welcome during our trips. One of the best parts of traveling year round is that we get all sorts of weather to enjoy the park in.
Do Family Exercises
My kids love being active, and family exercises are one way to get that play time in. Just letting the kids run around and chase each other is something they enjoy doing. Also, my husband and I both love getting in on the action and doing family exercises together.
Let the Kids Get Bored
I think we live in a society where parents think they need to entertain their kids 24/7. Guess what parents? You don’t! If you want to encourage playtime in your kids, let them get bored. Don’t let them default to playing video games or watching TV. Turn it off, let them get bored, and watch how creative they get with their play. In my opinion, kids are never too old to entertain themselves.
Explore the Area
OK, this one sounds like a no-brainer, we get out and explore the area we are in. Like the above picture, we got to see a recreation of an old-time cattle drive. After seeing that the kids were outside recreating their own cattle drives playing around. Seeing new things gives your kids new ways to expand their imagination.
Makeup Your Own Games
I love to encourage my kids to make up their own games. TAG is a great game for kids to play together, but they can also create their own twists. Play freeze tag or allow your kids to make up their own version. I bet they will surprise you with what they come up with.

I am a mom to 5 kids, homeschool mom, blogger, social media junkie, Frugalista, Book Worm, and Closet Want-to-be Chef. We are a Roadschool family (homeschooling on the road while traveling fulltime).
I grew up learning ways to save from my mom and grandma. I started my own coupon journey when my first child was born in 2009 and started the blog on 2010 when baby #2 was born to share my tips with everyone who kept asking about how I was getting diapers for $1 a pack!
