With Halloween coming I cringed at thought of buying 4 costumes! At $20 – $30 a pop (since my kids wanted to be Disney characters) That could be $100 for something they will wear once or twice. If I’m lucky I can re sell them for about $40 but I’d still be out $60. OUCH! So I set out to get 4 Halloween costume for FREE! It’s easy and you can do it too!
So first I took advantage of Target’s buy on costume and get 1 costume free sale. BAM about $60 saved. If I did nothing else and just re sold them for $40 I’s be out $5 a costume. Not bad. But I can do better! I can MAKE money on this!
Ready? Here is how I did it!
First I used Shopkick I check in every time I go to a store (or wall through the mall!) and I do their scans when available! It’s free and a super easy app to rack up points. I had hit the mall twice in the last few weeks and checked in to every possible store on my walk, and I had $40 in Target Gift Cards saved up. I cashed them out and used them in store.
I used these Gift cards to get 2 Costumes in store. In The picture you will see we picked up more we need some groceries and we got our Halloween Candy for buy one get one 50% as well.
I had to buy my son’s and my 1 year olds online because they didn’t have them in store. I took advantage of the same buy one get one free sale online.
but this time I used InstaGC (Instant Gift Card) I cashed out for a Paypal Gift payment.
The rest of the cash was used for groceries!
Now my kids have brand new costumes they will wear once, maybe twice. Then what? After Halloween, I send the costumes into Swap.com and I will earn about $10 a costume back from them. So I paid nothing and will get $40 back. That’s a $40 profit I then turn around use to buy more kids clothes since they grow so dang fast!
Now you can also do this on Amazon. You most likely won’t find the great buy one get one free sale on Amazon but here are 45 places you can earn FREE Amazon Gift Cards, all of which I either currently used or have used in the past. You can also see my daily schedule of how I earn $210 a Month of Amazon Gift Cards.
Also, remember when shopping online to use Ebates and their kid’s section as much as possible. I love getting cash back on things I’m buying anyway!
I am a mom to 5 kids, homeschool mom, blogger, social media junkie, Frugalista, Book Worm, and Closet Want-to-be Chef. We are a Roadschool family (homeschooling on the road while traveling fulltime).
I grew up learning ways to save from my mom and grandma. I started my own coupon journey when my first child was born in 2009 and started the blog on 2010 when baby #2 was born to share my tips with everyone who kept asking about how I was getting diapers for $1 a pack!
