In your wildest dreams, can you believe that it’s time for back-to-school season already? Back-to-school season has a way of panicking parents because it means one thing, spending money! Being a mom to five kids means that I have to get really particular with how we spend our back-to-school budget. Here is how we save money on back-to-school.
Focus on the items you know you’ll need
Every parent is waiting on that back-to-school list so they can start shopping. However, you know that your child is going to need specifics. Some of those specifics are pencils, glue, crayons, and markers. You don’t have to wait for these to go on sale, you can start shopping for them now! Then you won’t have to fight the back-to-school crowds. Plus, these items are in sale throughout the year and not just at back-to-school time.
Compare online prices with in-store prices
Parents in the 21st century have an advantage that the hundreds of parents didn’t have before them. You can easily buy school supplies online. You also have the ability to compare prices! You can compare online prices with in-store prices. You don’t have to buy everything from the same place. Compare prices and then buy! I always look for the websites that are offering free shipping! That’s a win-win for me because then I’m not even spending money on gas.
Don’t overbuy school items
When you’re shopping for school supplies, it is so easy to overbuy items. While you do need school supplies, you don’t want them sitting in your closet for a whole year. Buy what you need and maybe a little extra, but try not to overbuy. When you buy too much, you go over budget and that’s when things get ugly. Sticking to your list is going to be one of the best things you can do to save money.
