Saving Money on the Wedding Cake | How to Have the Wedding of Your Dreams for $1,500 or Less!
Wedding cakes are becoming more and more elaborate, but how do you get a wedding cake on a budget? You get creative.
Here are many some ideas
Bake it yourself – Youtube has many great tutorials it's not as hard as you think it is!
Buy non traditional wedding cakes from the store – Buy three white cakes from the store in different flavors. Wrap ribbon around the base of all three, with the center ribbon being in a pattern and the other two being solid.
Ask a Family Member – Aunt Mable makes the best cakes in church and if you ask her nicely she'd love to make your wedding cake! Don't let all of the talent among your friends and family go to waste!
Skip the Cake and Choose an Alternative – Wedding cakes are actually going out of style for some people. If you want a cheaper, easier option look at pies or cupcakes.
Get Cashback – Remember when you shop online for wedding items (and even in store!) use Ebates for cashback. They even have special wedding cashback offers!
Jessica Duggar did Root beer Floats for her wedding and I loved that idea! If you and your fiancé don’t eat cake, then serving cake isn’t really representing you, so serve something that does!
All of these options can be done easily and cost-effectively, and you can get creative with all of them. The style of your wedding will determine the style of the cakes, of course, but any of these options can be made to fit your theme.

I don’t know if this would actually work but I’ve thought about having a tiered cake with the top tiers made of styrofoam that are strictly for decoration and the bottom layer made for the bride and groom to cut into. In the kitchen, there would be tasty but inexpensive cake for the guests already sliced.

My son and daughter-in-law did this. Noone knew they had a “fake cake”. It was beautiful in the pictures, and the inexpensive sheet cake had a tasty raspberry filling.
