Welcome to day 1 of the How to Start a Blog mini-course!
Today I want to nail down you WHY. WHY do you want to start blogging? Why SHOULD you start a blog? If you are on the fence then this might take some thinking about. If you have already hatched your idea then your WHY should be pretty easy.
Read on and nail down your why, write it down. This will be a great start for your mission statement!
I started blogging for fun before I had ANY idea you could make money at it! I love to write and I just started writing. To be honest I don't even know if any single person ever read my first blog but it was just for me and it was fun!
To be Part of a Community
Bloggers are a unique group of people. With the exception of a few niche's, I have found bloggers to rally around one another, to help each other out, and be a great source of encouragement. Social media is a great way to connect with other bloggers and I wish I had done so sooner.
If you are blogging about something in your life, like an illness in your family or a situation you are going through this is also an amazing way to connect with others in the same boat!
If you are looking to help other people with a problem, or if your friends and family often come to you to solve a certain kind of problem consider writing about it.
For me, I started The Frugal Navy Wife right after I had my 2nd child because I was getting killer deals on diapers (seriously Jumbo packs for $2 or less!) and I was sharing them on Facebook. Well, I had friends and family posting, calling, and texting me asking how I did it. I honestly just got tired of repeating myself so I put it on the blog. Within a few months, I realized I had a bunch of people following me who I had no idea who they were because my friends had shared it with their friends and so on. I was solving a problem of helping others save money.
To Build a Business
Many businesses, small and large have branched out and started a blog to help connect with their readers, to help promote their business, and increase brand awareness.
You can also start a blog to launch a business. My blog IS my business. My eBooks are spin-offs of my most popular content, this email course is because of things I learned from my blog! Everything centers around my blog.
To Promote your Products
Do you have products you want to promote? A book, art, handmade items? A blog is a great way to talk about the topic of your book, the inspiration for your art or items. This lets people get to know YOU when they fall in love with you, they are more likely to buy, when they buy they become a more loyal customer than someone who randomly buys off google.
These are the top reasons for starting a blog but not the only reasons. What is your WHY? Nail it down. Write it down and bring it with you tomorrow when we nail down WHAT you should be blogging about. Hit reply I'd love to know your WHY!

I am a mom to 5 kids, homeschool mom, blogger, social media junkie, Frugalista, Book Worm, and Closet Want-to-be Chef. We are a Roadschool family (homeschooling on the road while traveling fulltime).
I grew up learning ways to save from my mom and grandma. I started my own coupon journey when my first child was born in 2009 and started the blog on 2010 when baby #2 was born to share my tips with everyone who kept asking about how I was getting diapers for $1 a pack!
