Have you heard? Disney is releasing a movie called The Finest Hours. I am beyond excited to watch it! The Finest Hours is based on the Extraordinary True Story of One of the Greatest Rescue Stories Ever Told. In other words, this is based on an incredible true story.
Add in that you can witness the unparalleled feat of bravery in an immersive experience – filled with thrilling action, impossible stakes and unbelievable spectacle like never before attempted on the big screen and we are so there for date night.
You can watch the story of Captain Bernie Webber (played by Chris Pine). In 1952, a massive winter storm strikes off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, ripping a T-2 oil tanker in half and trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly sinking stern. When word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard, four men led by Captain Bernie Webber set out in a 12-seat boat on a daring mission to rescue the stranded men, braving freezing cold, 60-foot waves, and hurricane-force winds, and guided by Webber’s vow that “We all live, or we all die.” Packed with thrilling, larger-than-life action and anchored in a belief in the strength of the human spirit, The Finest Hours is a triumph.
Like I said it captures your attention right?! I'm hooked! He went out in a 12 seat boat? Did they survive? How many men did they rescue? HOW did they make it to the sinking ship, much less rescue anyone? How bad was the storm? See these questions need answers! This heroic action-thriller film depicts the extraordinary story of the greatest small-boat rescue in U.S. Coast Guard history. As a Navy Wife, it had my heart right then. I knew hubby, and I would make this a date night movie. Now just to find a sitter…. Also coming with DVD is the Bonus Documentary “Against All Odds: The Bernie Webber Story”. This is a kind of a behind the scenes look at what happened that historic day.
Visit the quaint and close-knit town of Chatham, and experience the events surrounding the most heroic Coast Guard rescue ever through the eyes of the people who witnessed them (also features the Filmmakers, the Coauthors of The Finest Hours Book, and Bernie Webber’s daughter)
I got a chance to view both the movie and the documentary and wow. With the film, I was drawn in on the edge of my seat! For us gals there is a great love story tied in. I mean it doesn't get any better than starting off with the classic 1950's blind double date and ending in a heroic mission of saving lives right? It's the bets of both worlds.
