So, you’re about to get a new cell phone? Terrific! In that case, you may want to get rid of your old phone to make way for the new and improved. The great thing about getting a new cell phone is that you can recoup some or all of your previous phone's cost. Here are some practical tips about different ways you can convert your phone into a little bit of cash!
Sell your Cell Phone Online
Online is the easiest place to start. There’s no rule about where to get the most money for your device, so shop around. In addition to old standbys like craigslist and eBay, and amazon you can try these sites when you want to sell used electronics. There are many online sites that are generated by just selling electronics.
- Swappa.com
- Glyde.com
- Gazelle.com
- Gizmogul.com
- BuyBackWorld.com or BuyMyTronics.com
- NextWorth.com
- SellCell.com
Sell your Cell Phone In-Store
In-store programs are the easiest way to quickly get cash for your device. All you have to do is take your phone to the local store and hand it over. You'll get a gift card for the phone's value immediately, or if you don’t agree with their assessment you can take your phone back and walk away. These programs typically don't pay top dollar, and all of them pay you via gift card, meaning you have to spend your money where you traded it in. A few participating locations are Best Buy and Walmart.
Sell your Cell Phone at the ATM
EcoATM kiosks accept devices of any era or condition and use a worldwide auction system to offer consumers competitive prices. Ranging from a few dollars for older models to a few hundred for newer smartphones, depending on condition. They buy back cell phones and other mobile devices in most transactions. Sometimes very old devices may not be worth anything, but they still accept them for responsible processing. These can be found in local areas, or go online to ecoatm.com and search for “find a location”
Amazon Trade-In
As far as trade-in programs go, I personally love Amazon Trade-In Program. It's easy to use and you get an Amazon Gift Card. You can find pretty much everything on Amazon so there really aren't any limitations on what you can use your gift card for! Groceries, college books, Christmas, and more!
Donate your Cell Phone to Charity
Most cell phone providers have drop-off bins or mail-in programs to make recycling your old phone easy, but there are lots of ways you can recycle your phone and give it to others. Many charities have partnered with cell phone refurbishers and recyclers as a way of generating funds. Older cell phones can always be donated to soldiers through AnySoldier.com or to domestic violence shelters through ShelterAlliance.net.
Don't let these old phones take up space in a landfill or gather dust in a desk drawer. Nothing can go wrong with making extra cash on the side or donating it for a good cause. Of course, you may end up taking the simple path of letting a child use the phone or you can also use your old phone as a backup in case you're new model suffers irreparable harm. There are many different options given for you to choose from.
