Summer is here and having a picnic in the park or after a good hike is an excellent way to welcome the change in weather. Tucking a great bottle of wine to enjoy in your bag to share with that someone special is a great way to set the tone for a relaxing afternoon. Whether you are picnicking with your besties or that person that brings a smile to your eyes, here are some suggestions on the perfect wine to take on a picnic.
Perfect Wines to Take on a Picnic
New Age, white blend. New Age is not like any other white wine on the market. It has carbon dioxide added which is not present in the natural fermentation. It makes this wine a little bubbly and oh so refreshing. You can serve it two ways and one of which is quite unique for a wine. Pour New Age over ice and squeeze half a lime into it. It tastes remarkably similar to a margarita! If you don’t have limes handy, serve it the regular way and it is still incredibly yummy. This wine has a screw cap which is great to take on a picnic. It pairs well with all sorts of fruits, cheese, and spicy hummus.
Docle Rosso, sparkling red blend. Some picnics are meant for a little romance and time to share with our partner. You can bring along a bottle of bubbly, or you can pour a bottle of a sparkling red wine which is really unique and utterly amazing. Docle Rosso Sparkling Red is best served chilled to bring out the black cherry notes. This is meant to be savored with soft cheeses like Brie and with decadent dark chocolate. This sparkling red has passion and romance hidden in one little bottle!
Layer Cake, Malbec. Sometimes our picnics turn into lazy afternoons watching the waves roll in on the beach. When you need a wine to warm you up a little and set the mood for a romantic evening, open up a bottle of Layer Cake. Their Malbec is a great choice and is deep and sultry with just a hint of peppery spicy after tones. This wine is has a screw cap top which makes it perfect to pack into your picnic basket. This wine does need to breathe a bit, so make sure to pour it as soon as you get to your picnic area and enjoy it about 20 minutes later.
Kim Crawford, Sauvignon Blanc. For a hot summer day you can’t go wrong drinking a Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. This wine has a refreshing grapefruit taste and is perfect to pair when having a fish fry or bbq. It is great served chilled and you will need a wine opener with this bottle. It goes down easily so you might want to pick up two bottles for your afternoon picnic!
