My kids have a love for farms right now. The animals, how things grow, what the farmer does and more. So I decided to run with that love and make a unit study around it for our homeschool!
I base all our unit studies around books, I then match in printables and other items I find and always a field trip. My process for unit studies is very laid back. We start the day by reading a book or two than fill in with activities and printables. I also try and match with TV shows. So here is my list of what we did you can mix and match the way you want.
1001 Things to Spot on the Farm – Usborne – This book makes for a great activity and great way to learn new farm words.
Farming – Gail Gibbons – Gail Gibbons books are very educational
Chickens & Chickens – Gail Gibbons
Jobs on a Farm (World of Farming) – Nancy Dickmann
Farm Animals – Usborne – Answers lots of questions about farm animals.
Food and Farming Then and Now (From Olden Days to Modern Ways in Your Community) – Bobbie Kalman
Horses! – Gail Gibbons
Farm Machines (World of Farming) – Nancy Dickmann
First Word Book on the Farm – Usborne – This book is great to bring you little ones into the unit study with you. It’s how I keep my little ones entertained while doing school with my older ones.

Farming Community (Grades 3-4)
I did many activities with the kids. The one they loved most was this Farm Science Kit. One mommy loved was this Wipe Clean Farm Activity Book. This Farm Yard Tales Coloring Book was great busy work when I needed to work on other things or with one kid on something. I found this Root Vue Farm after we did our unit but this would have been a great addition!
This one is really simple the best field trip is to a farm! My kiddos got to feed the baby cows. This was right after my oldest daughter turned 4 and there was a cow born on her birthday she was so excited! I was preggo with #4 here 🙂
I am a mom to 5 kids, homeschool mom, blogger, social media junkie, Frugalista, Book Worm, and Closet Want-to-be Chef. We are a Roadschool family (homeschooling on the road while traveling fulltime).
I grew up learning ways to save from my mom and grandma. I started my own coupon journey when my first child was born in 2009 and started the blog on 2010 when baby #2 was born to share my tips with everyone who kept asking about how I was getting diapers for $1 a pack!
