I don’t know about you, but I LOVE to travel. I love flying because it gets me there so much faster. The downside to flying is that it can be super expensive. However, I have found a few ways around paying high prices on airplane tickets and air travel. See my tips below.
How to Score the Best Airfare Deals
#1. Booking about a month beforehand.
I never book my tickets too far in advance. In fact, it works best if I book about a month beforehand. I’m not sure what it is, but this seems to give me the best price. Start looking about two months before you need to book a flight and see how the prices slowly dip about a month beforehand. If you buy them too close to your date, then you’ll see the prices start to climb.
#2. Try to fly during the week.
Something I have also noticed when booking flights is that I save a lot of money when I’m flying during the week. If you fly on a holiday or a weekend, the prices tend to climb. It’s always best to fly during the week in my experiences.
#3. Fly during non-busy hours.
Another way to save money on airplane tickets and airfare is to avoid flying during non-busy hours. Flying after 8 o’clock PM is considered a non-busy hour. Plus, if you don’t like flying with kids, this may be your best bet. Most parents won’t risk flying overnight with their kids.
#4. Look for sales from your favorite airlines.
One thing I’ve noticed is that it is a LOT easier to get a good deal when you wait for a sale. For example, I always look for sales from my favorite airlines. I LOVE when I see tickets go on sale, it really makes my day. Sometimes avoiding those “booking sites” really pays off because the airline has an even better sale. Always be patient and your waiting will pay off.
#5. Don’t be picky about your destination.
This obviously doesn’t work for everyone, but sometimes for vacation, we book wherever is cheapest. For example, tickets to Florida are HOT right now because everyone is going to Disney world. I try to go away from the crowd and not fly to the same destinations as everyone else during the busy season.
#6 Use discount sites.
We all know about sites like Expedia for getting discount travel and airplane tickets. There is also a site called CheapAir where you can get some great prices to more expensive locations.
Saving money on airfare is easier than you think. In my opinion, it takes patience. Don’t just buy the first ticket you find because you think it will be the cheapest. What tips do you have for saving money on airplane tickets? Tell me your secrets!
I LOVE that these tips don’t include credit cards. I am currently running a NO credit card household and so many of the tips I see are to buy one on a credit card and use your travel points! Thanks so much!
