Have you ever just looked at your finances and started panicking just a little? It’s easy to allow money to get out of hand. One minute you’re doing okay financially and the next you don’t really know what’s going on. Here is how to spring clean your finances.
Go on a Spending Freeze
One thing to do is to go on a spending freeze. By going on a spending freeze, you can really spring clean your finances. This simply means that you don’t spend any money, unless it’s necessary.
Most people find themselves in financial trouble, when they don’t budget for important expenses. Don’t wait until those expenses sneak up on you; budget for them. Whether it’s house taxes or insurance, put aside money every week to ensure you have enough when the time rolls around that you need it.
Consolidate What You Can
Another way to spring clean your finances is to consolidate what you can. If you have student loans, see if you can refinance or consolidate them. If you have credit cards, you can consider a balance transfer to help you save money. Lowering your monthly payment can also take a lot of stress out of your finances.
Have a Spousal Budget Meeting
If you’re not the only one dealing with your finances, it’s time to have a budget meeting. You can have a budget meeting and discuss everything in your finances. It’s always best to talk about money before it gets out of hand. A budget meeting can help you know what’s coming in and out of your bank account. You can have budget meetings as often or as little as you want. I recommend having them more often than not.
Remove Extras
Do you know how much you’re spending in your finances, without even realizing it? Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, App subscriptions, and so much more. It’s time to look through your bank account to see what you’re spending. You’ll be thankful when you remove those extras from your life and your bank account. Don’t forget that those little things really add up!
