I had this crazy idea about a year ago, I bought a box of mismatched buttons for around $5. It was a huge box, and it took me and the kids days to sort them into jars by color. My plan was to have fun creating button art with the kids. I did some flowers and a Christmas tree and then got brave and went with something a bit more extravagant with my Valentine's Day Crafts and do this heart button art.

Stretched canvas of your choice, I used an 8×8.”
Light pink craft paint
Large paintbrush
Mix of pink buttons and tiny beads, like pearls
Hot glue gun/glue sticks
Scissors
Scrap paper
First, you want to lay down an old newspaper before you get started. You want to protect your work surface!
Next, pour your pink paint onto a heavy-duty paper plate for your pallet and paint the top and sides of your canvas pink and let dry (use a hairdryer for a quicker dry time).
Cut out a piece of paper the size of your canvas, in my case, an 8×8″ piece of paper, fold in half, and cut a heart out on the center folded line so when you open you have a large heart and trace it lightly onto the center of your painted canvas. If you prefer there are tons of great heart templates you can use online, just do a quick search.

Then start carefully gluing your largest pink buttons onto the heart, do not go outside your pencil line.
Then start filling in your smaller areas with your smaller buttons and begin layering them on top of your large buttons to make sure there are no open spaces.
Now carefully fill in your empty spaces and outlines with your hot glue a little at a time and top with your tiny beads.
Let your heart dry completely and display.
I know it's still a bit cold in most areas and if you want to do more button art we have a button art snowman as well that was pretty fun to make.
