Green Chili Pepper Jack Stuffed Turkey Burgers
Grilled burgers are a staple in the summer months but if you are like me and trying to make healthier choices you know that they aren’t always the best choice for your diet. And if you have ever tried grilled a turkey burger you know how quickly it can dry out and be unsavory. That’s where this easy recipe comes into play for a quick, delicious, juicy and flavorful burger comes into play. You can adapt the flavors to suit your desires but this has long been the most popular and requested at our family barbecues. Our big meat eaters ask for these not realizing they aren’t eating their traditional beef burgers. This is also a great way to sneak ground turkey in on those picky eaters in the family.
1 Pound Ground Turkey
1 small can (3-4oz) mild green chili’s – undrained
4 slices Low Fat Pepperjack Cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
In a large bowl mix together ground turkey, canned green chili’s (do not drain – juice helps keep burgers moist) and seasonings. You may mix with a wooden spoon but we all know a good burger requires getting a little dirty and using your hands to mix and form.
Divide meat mixture into 4ths. Form each ¼ pound into a medium ball. Pat ball down forming a small hollow in the center. Fold one slice of cheese into Small Square and stuff into the middle of burger patty covering with remaining meat. Form into rounded patty.
Grill for 5-6 minutes on each side or until meat thermometer shows appropriate temp has been reached for safety. Serve on toasted sesame seed buns, with light mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce, tomato and optional onion and pickles.
