My family is on the go a lot. Whether traveling or checking out the latest museum on a homeschool trip, we love to explore and be on the go. Now, snacking on the go can be a bit tricky, when you have five kids and two hungry parents. Here are a few snacking tips for on the go.
Pack plenty for everyone
There is nothing I dislike more than trying to ration out snacks. If I do my job correctly, I can pack enough snacks to keep everyone happy, the entire time. Truth is, if I don’t pack enough snacks, usually I’m the one to go without. Yeah, I don’t like it when that happens. Mom and dad both like their snacks too, especially when we know it will be a while before we eat a full meal.
Pack a variety of snacks
When I’m talk about bringing a variety of snacks, I mean bring a variety. I pack a few healthy snacks and a few-not-so-healthy snacks. If we’re going to be gone all day, I really have to pack a variety to keep us all satisfied. Kids can be incredibly picky too. The last thing you need is your child having a complete meltdown because they decided they don’t like the “one” snack you packed. Variety will save your sanity, mama.
Bring unrefrigerated snacks
Don’t give yourself a headache by trying to pack snacks that need refrigeration. There is nothing worse than packing around a cooler, especially when you’re walking and trying to explore a new place. For my sanity and keeping things simple, I always bring unrefrigerated snacks. I also try to stick with just bringing water, since this doesn’t need to be refrigerated.
Don’t forget everyone’s favorite snack
You can pack enough snacks and a variety of snacks, but don’t forget everyone’s favorite snack. Around here, our favorite is Nut Thins. I can run right into our local Rite Aid and come back out with this surprisingly delicious snack. As an on the go snack, we love the plain ones, but my kids will eat any flavor of Nut Thins, which makes me happy. Like to save money? Make sure you check your Valpak envelopes for a coupon.
Now, get out there and enjoy snacking again. Whether you’re on the go or relaxing with the family, Nut Thins are always a great choice.
