The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Unit Study My kids are IN LOVE with the Solar System right now. So we have been working our way thru our The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Unit Study. We have read many books learned about the moon and placement of the planets. But my kids say their all time favorites have been the The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System activities! We had an astronaut snack that the kids loved! They loved being able to try out what people eat up in space. We explained why certain foods were the way they were and made a day out of it. Related: DIY Galaxy Jar We worked with a Solar System Sensory Bin and made a window solar system with reusable stickers. They would move the stickers around daily! The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Snack
The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Snack This was a super fun snack to put together for the kids, and is simple to put together using what you have on hand. Sliced cheeses became our Saturn- I used a cup to cut the circle, then used the outside part of that to cut out a ring with scissors. A Babybel was perfect for the red planet -Mars. Marshmallows were our stars or as my son pointed out they could be the Milky Way, while cereal were the asteroids hurtling through space. I let the mini rice cake be open to their interpretation- and was quickly declared as Venus. I love to include fresh fruit at every snack and meal- what could be more perfect than a Starfruit? And if your child has never tried it before its a great way to introduce a new food in a fun way. Finally I … [Read more...]
Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Activity – Sensory Bin
Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Activity -Sensory Bin Since I made my sensory bin for a preschooler and a Kindergartener, I wasn't really worried about it being perfectly accurate, I just wanted them to get the idea of space and the general feeling of planets and stars. I set our book out that we used as the base for our mini unit study Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System next to the sensory bin so that the kids could use it for reference while they played, and they actually did look in it quite a bit to see what the various planets looked like. Related: DIY Galaxy Jar Black beans are a fantastic base to recreate the darkness of space. Yellow and white pompoms mimic the stars, while the larger, brightly colored pompoms are easily identified by little ones as planets. … [Read more...]
Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Art Project
Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System Art Project I am working with a preschooler and a Kindergartener- I like to do my unit studies on things that both kids will enjoy. Also I like for the projects and activities to be a little challenging but do not require me to pretty much do it for the child. I don't think there are many kids who are not fascinated by the Solar System, Outer Space, and all that entails. So this was a fantastic unit for us to work on, we read- Magic School Bus : Lost in the Solar System to kick off this unit, and several times throughout, we also used it as a reference for our projects and activities. Related: DIY Galaxy Jar Their favorite thing we did so far was to create our own Solar System. Like I said the kids are younger,so while we did reference … [Read more...]
