It's made a bit different but when you look at it it looks like a pizza and it's eaten like a pizza but it tastes like a taco. My kids love it because they love anything pizza! Easy Homemade Taco Pizza Recipe
Now, this is the most basic taco pizza recipe. It has the basic taco ingredients but you can add or change it however you want. I saw this on the menu during one of my trips an has to check it out.
With no reference and never heard of such a thing I had to know.
Was is a pizza in a taco shell?

These were questions that had to be answered. So I ordered it and what came out of the kitchen was this goodness that has had a terminating place on our household menu ever since.
What is on a taco pizza?
Whatever you would put on your normal tacos would be great on a taco pizza. This recipe is the basic meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes.
We have added black olives, different cheeses, Freetos, or Doritos.
Is taco pizza a Midwest thing?
While pretty popular in the midwest this yummy version of everyone's favorite taco is not making an appearance off over the country and several national chains have had Taco Pizza Specials!

Where did taco pizza originate?
In the small town of Bettendorf, Iowa in 1974. This is why people classify it as a midwest thing!

Heck yeah! It does in my house! Ok, that was a fun question from my 7-year-old but I felt like it needed to be included!

Ingredients for Taco Pizza
2 (8 oz.) cans refrigerated crescent dough
1 (8 oz.) package full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
1 cup sour cream
1 lb. ground beef
1 package taco seasoning
1-2 Roma tomatoes, diced
1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend

Homemade Taco Pizza Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a large sheet pan with foil or parchment paper and lightly grease with cooking spray.
Open cans of dough and unroll onto the prepared sheet pan, pinching dough to seal the seams.
Bake for about 10 minutes, until “crust” is golden brown.
Let the crust cool slightly.
Using a hand mixer, combine cream cheese and sour cream in a medium bowl until smooth.
Spread mixture over crust, leaving a small margin around the edges.
Place in the fridge to chill for at least 15 minutes.
In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef, drain away the fat, and season with taco seasoning.
Add about a teaspoon or two of water and stir taco meat.
Sprinkle taco meat evenly over the cream cheese layer and shredded lettuce.
Then top with the diced tomatoes or any other toppings you want to add.
Sprinkle with shredded cheese and slice as desired.
