So one night I was cooking and ran out of seasoned salt. I use it in many recipes, one of my kids favorites is seasoned salt pork chops. So what was I to do? I made homemade seasoned salt recipe. It was either have cranky, fussy kids who didn't want to eat because the pork chops are 'ewwy yucky' (their words not mine!) or make my own. I don't know about you, but I'd make anything to avoid cranky kids..... I have noticed that the more things we make, the more we save. Why buy an expensive bottle of seasoned salt when I can make it from spices I already have in my cabinet? Plus I find I can always adjust it and make a better version. Like my seven things I stopped buying and started making posts. I also started making my own hickory bbq sauce and using it to make my own slow cooker … [Read more...]

Blogging Tax Questions – Is My Blog A Business Or Hobby?
With tax time upon us, so many have tax questions. The tax questions for us bloggers are even harder to find answers to because so many people don't fully understand what we do. If you are making money as a blog people, just don't 'get it'. So I have stopped telling people I run a blog and starting to say that I am a writer. Since I have two different sites, I tailor what I say based on what we are talking about. If It's about the travel blog, I say that 'I am a travel writer' and if they want more info, I tell them that I have a blog and do freelance writing along with social media promotion. If it's this blog, then I say I'm a financial writer who does freelance work and social media work along with blogging. Why? Homemade Brown Sugar Recipe
So the other day I went to make my Brown Sugar Garlic Glazed Pork Chops and realized I was out of brown sugar. Now, if you have been around the blog for any length of time, you know I am not a fan of running out to the store for just one item. If you were to do this once a week, that extra $5 will cost you $240 a year, and that is assuming you only spend $5 extra. I don't know about you, but I don't walk out with only $5 in extras! Heck, I can't remember the last time I walked out of Target spending less than $100! Homemade Brown Sugar Recipe So with this in mind I was faced with a … [Read more...]
