I went a little overboard the last time I bought buttons when I did my DIY Button Art Heart craft. So with all the extras, I knew I had to find something else to do with them. I wanted the kids to have a cute gift to give to their dad so we made this DIY Button Frame Valentines Day Gift Idea and I love displaying it on our Valentine's Day wall!
DIY Button Frame Valentines Day Gift Idea
My kids have been obsessed with popsicle stick crafts lately so I bought a box of over 1,000 of them and we have been working our way through some crafts like our Easy DIY Popsicle Stick Snowflake Craft but we still have so many left what was I thinking!!
So have been on the hunt for popsicle stick crafts ever since. The kids love it and it's a great way to keep them busy when they aren't in school. They even take a few and do some simple face drawings on them and take them in the backyard to play.

Also, this is the bulk button set I bought, all 650 pieces of it. I really liked it though color shapes and colors in the red and pink spectrum. I then divided them up into mason jars and they make a good shelf decor item while waiting to be used.
You don't have to go overboard as I did though, this button frame can be done with less than 50 buttons when you mix sizes as I did.

Items Needed for the Valentines Day Button Frame
Non-Lined Paper (like printer paper)
White Paint (or the color paint you want your frame to be)
Elmer's glue (optional instead of hot glue)
Yarn (optional best in Red, Pink, or White)
Directions for the DIY Button Frame Valentines Day Gift Idea
Start by painting your popsicle sticks. You can keep them unpainted as well or paint them red or pink. I painted mine a soft white. The choice is yours. Makes sure to paint the sides too.
Once dry glue the sticks together in pairs of two side by side. You will need 4 sets. Let dry.
Then glue into a frame as shown in the picture. Let Dry.
Start picking out your buttons. I used big buttons on the corners to hide the ‘joints'. Don't be afraid to let them hang over the edge. Also you can add a few to the second layer to hide any empty spots. Let Dry.
Next to draw your picture. I took 4 extra popsicle sticks and made a frame for size. This is where you can make it your own. It can be hearts, I Love You, Be Mine or anything Valentines Day related.
Even little kids can participate and dram using Valentine's Day colors. It will make a great keepsake for parents or grandparents.
Once the frame is dry turn over and glue the paper to the back using Elmer's school glue if you can. You can hot glue as well but the Elmer's is better for paper.
If you wish to hang your frame you can use yarn. Glue the yarn to the back with hot glue and let dry.
Once everything is dry you want to remove all the hot glue fine whisps and then display your frame!
