How to Save Money on Groceries – The Weird Grocery Shopping Trick that Saves Me $100 or More a Month
I have shared several ways to save money on your groceries. I shared how to save on produce and how to save on meat.
These methods I have learned from my mom but then I have discovered a few of my own like earning $100 in free groceries each month and using Amazon Prime Pantry to save on groceries.
Today I am here to share one more I have learned on my own. First, I try to go groceries shopping alone, for many reasons but I tend to spend about $20 more a trip when I take hubby and/or the kids with me.
So as I am shopping I ALWAYS shop from my list. I menu plan my meals and shop sales and my list shows what sales and coupon(s) I will be using. So I have everything planned I will buy.
Are you ready? Here it is.
The Weird Grocery Shopping Trick that Saves Me $100 or More a Month
As I am grocery shopping I stick to my list as mentioned above. Anything that isn't on my list that goes into my cart I put in the seat of the cart. This does a few things.
The item is staring me down and that impulse buy that looked great when my calculator read only $20 doesn't look so great when I'm nearing $80.
So the part that saves me at least $100 a more a month? I make myself put back at least 2 items, I try for more. I pick those impulse buys first and most of the time they all go back. every now and then a bag of Oreos makes it through the system.
Now, what if I don't have anything in the seat of my cart by the end of the shopping trip? It' rare but it has happened a few times. I go through my cart and I will put out 2 items. Things I do not need. Maybe a sale item etc. I will put back the cereal and make breakfast for the week. It's worth it when I see my saving account grow. I did this trick last year and I added $1,500 to my savings account this way alone.
