Oreo Rice Krispie Treats
Confession: I will eat just about anything if you put Oreos in it.
When I was a kid, Rice Krispie Treats were a Sunday afternoon staple in my house. My family would love to spend time together making these simple, yet delicious ooey-gooey cereal bars. We not only loved how easy this treat was to make, but we also loved how fun it was to customize! Over the years we’ve tried throwing almost every dessert ingredient you can think of into a pan with puffed rice cereal and melted marshmallows to see how the resulting Rice Krispie Treat will turn out. One of our favorite experimental recipes was our Oreo Rice Krispie Treats!
Something truly magical happens when you combine chocolatey Oreo cookies, crispy puffed rice cereal, gooey marshmallows, and creamy white chocolate. The resulting cookies-and-cream-flavored cereal bar is the perfect balance of sweet, rich, decadent, and chewy! Believe me when I say that neither you nor your little ones will be able to get enough of these innovative and addictive Oreo Rice Krispie Treats.

Are Oreo Rice Krispie Treats Gluten-Free?
As the recipe is written, no, but these gooey cereal bars can easily be made gluten-free! Since puffed rice cereal, mini marshmallows, and white chocolate are all naturally gluten-free ingredients, all you’ll need to do is swap out the regular Oreos for the new gluten-free Oreos! In no time you’ll have delicious dessert bars that are safe to serve to your gluten-free friends and family!
Can I use regular marshmallows instead of miniature marshmallows?
Yes! In a pinch, regular marshmallows will work in place of the miniature marshmallows. Just be aware that you’ll need to melt your larger marshmallows over a lower heat so that they warm evenly—you don’t want to be stuck with a pot full of partially burnt marshmallows!

How long are Oreo Rice Krispie Treats good for?
Oreo Rice Krispie Treats will stay good in an airtight container on the counter for up to three days or in the fridge for up to one week. However, I’ll be surprised if you go that long without devouring the whole pan!

What You'll Need To Make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats:
Rice Krispie Cereal—This puffed rice cereal acts as the base of these gooey, chocolatey marshmallow bars. If puffed rice isn’t your thing, you can easily make this recipe with any kind of dried cereal.
Oreos—Roughly chopped Oreo sandwich cookies add a perfect hint of chocolatey goodness to these otherwise standard dessert bars. I like to use double-stuff Oreos in these Rice Krispie Treats, but any kind of Oreo or chocolate sandwich cookie will do!
Mini Marshmallows—When compared to regular marshmallows, miniature marshmallows tend to melt more evenly when introduced to heat. If you like your cereal bars on the gooier side, try using more marshmallows.
Butter—Butter is used not only to keep your melted marshmallows from sticking to your pot but also to add a rich and fatty flavor to this otherwise carb-heavy dessert.
Melted White Chocolate—You’ll use a small amount of melted white chocolate to decorate the tops of your Oreo Rice Krispie Treats. I find that the Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers are particularly delicious; however, melted white chocolate chips will work as well.
How To Make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats:
Spray a 9×13 dish with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, pour measured Rice Krispie Cereal.
Chop and mash Oreos. This is totally customizable, I wanted both big chunks and small crumbs so I chopped up 20 Oreos, and the last 5 I smashed in a plastic bag.
Add Oreos to Rice Krispie cereal and stir to combine.
In a medium saucepan, heat butter and marshmallows together over medium heat, stirring constantly, until they melt together.
Pour melted marshmallows over cereal and Oreos and use a spatula sprayed with non-stick cooking spray to quickly combine all the ingredients.
As soon as all the cereal is combined, spread the mixture into the prepared 9×13″ dish. To flatten I used a sheet of Wax Paper to push them down.
Let sit until completely cooled. When the Rice Krispie treats are cooled drizzled with some white chocolate and let it sit until it's hardened.
Recipe Variations
One of the really fun aspects of this recipe is its simplicity and customizability! Since Oreo cookies come in a wide variety of flavors, you can really get creative when making these Oreo Rice Krispie Treats. Below are some of my favorite cereal bar flavor combinations.
- Use mint Oreos and chocolate cereal to create Mint Chocolate Oreo Rice Krispie Treats.
- Add crushed lemon Oreos to your marshmallow and cereal mixture and drizzle your bars with a raspberry compote to make Raspberry Lemonade Oreo Rice Krispie Treats.
- Make Chocolate Lover’s Oreo Rice Krispie Treats by using chocolate crème Oreos, chocolate cereal, and melted dark chocolate!
- If they’re in season, pick up a package of cinnamon roll Oreos and combine them with cinnamon toast crunch to make Cinnamon Roll Oreo Rice Krispie Treats! Don’t forget to drizzle these cereal bars with some cream cheese frosting!
